Samut Prakan City appoints Masatada Ishii as a new coach

Meet Masatada Ishii, our new "Sea Fang" head coach with a long list of accolades that include taking Kashima Antlers to the J1 League championship in the 2016 season. He has officially made the move to come take command of our squad as we battle through the Toyota Thai League, Chang FA Cup, and Toyota League Cup tournaments in the 2020 season!

The experienced Japanese head coach has worked in club management in the J.League since 2002 as a fitness coach at Kashima Antlers. He stepped up the ranks to the assistant coach post in 2012 before taking the helm as Kashima Antlers head coach from 2015-2017. The Ishii-era saw the team win the J.League Cup in 2015 to later become J.League double champions by claiming both the J1 League championship and the Emperor’s Cup in 2016, the year he was also elected J.League Manager of the Year.

Masatada Ishii is also known as the first coach to successfully take a team from Asia through to the finals of the Club World Cup championship. (In the 2016 Club World Cup final match, Kashima Antlers were beaten by Real Madrid 2-4 after extra time following the 2-2 full time draw.) In 2017-2018 he moved to J2 League club Omiya Ardija and now he’s decided to come to Samut Prakan City to lead the team into battle in our 2020 campaign!
